A QUBO Formulation for Minimum Loss Network Reconfiguration

We introduce a novel quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) formulation for classical problem in electrical engineering – the optimal reconfiguration of distribution grids. For given graph representing grid infrastructure and known nodal loads, consists finding spanning tree that minimizes total link ohmic losses. A set constraints is initially defined to impose topologically valid solutions. These are then converted QUBO model as penalty terms. The losses terms formulated QUBO, taking advantage relationship between several variables order reduce overall expression. Finally, these added objective function minimize. In achieve best possible performance solution searching with solvers, hybrid quantum-classical solvers quantum annealers, our has goal being very efficient usage. standard 33-node test network used an illustrative example general formulation. Model metrics this presented discussed. was obtained validated through comparison from independent method.
